Clinical Reflexology

Clinical Reflexology is a natural and non-invasive therapy that involves applying gentle pressure to specific points on the feet or hands. These points known as reflexes, correspond to different organs, systems and functions of the body. By stimulating these reflexes, reflexology can help to restore balance and harmony in the body, mind and spirit.

I practice the Duopody form of Reflexology which treats both feet simultaneously, stimulating the body’s natural healing process and restoring balance. Duopodists use the Podycharts developed by Annie Trigg and Sue Alma Evans which present X-rays of a pair of real feet overlayed with of the body’s systems (e.g. Digestive, Cardiovascular, Musuloskeletal, Endocrine systems). This approach, where the (macro) systems of the body are illustrated in an anatomically correct way on to the feet (micro) supports our ability to work in partnership with other complementary therapists and health professionals (e.g. GPs, Dentists, Nurses, Physiotherapists).

I am also licensed to practise the NEPIP and CALM Reflexology techniques that are exclusive to Level 5 practitioners that have studied at a CAREA Centre of Excellence. The NEPIP technique supports client concerns relating to stress and anxiety. CALM is a beautiful soothing technique that supports energy flow within the body and is applied as part of a palliative care protocol. It is also suitable for all clients as well, particularly where stress has resulted in imbalances within the body.

What can the client expect at the appointment and What will happen in a session:

A safe, confidential time and space to support your health and wellness journey through the application of my advanced clinical reflexology approach.

All of my treatments will be tailored specifically to you.

At you initial appointment we will take time to talk about your health and well-being, and to discuss any particular concerns that you might have (e.g. digestive issues, muscular tension, stress, anxiety, sleep disturbance, fatigue, peri/menopause related symptoms). We will complete a  detailed health and wellbeing questionnaire together to understand your medical history, lifestyle and goals.

Plan – From our conversation and the information that you provide I will develop a Reflexology treatment plan that is specific to your needs – this is at the heart of my training – and I will talk through this plan with you.

Treatment – You will then receive a relaxing Reflexology treatment – you may wish to stay awake, or you may want to close your eyes and sleep – whatever works for you! During the treatment you may feel some sensations such as tingling, warmth, or relaxation. We will adjust the ‘depth of touch’ on your feet according to your body’s needs.

After the treatment – At the end of the treatment we will discuss the findings and your sensations. We will also consider what you might do ‘realistically’ to support your own health and well-being goals going forwards. As a Clinical Reflexologist my advice might also suggest making an appointment to speak to your GP or other health care professionals and complementary therapists.

How many sessions should the client need before they see a result:

Follow-on treatments will be scheduled at an appropriate frequency that is relevant to supporting your health-related goals and with full respect to your budget and availability.

Reflexology can help you in many ways, such as:

  • Relieving tension and stress, which are often the root causes of many health problems.
  • De-stressing and relaxing your nervous system, which can improve your blood circulation, immune system and digestion.
  • Enhancing your wellbeing and vitality, by stimulating your body’s natural healing abilities and promoting self-care.
  • Improving your mood and emotional state, by releasing endorphins and serotonin, the natural feel-good hormones.
  • Aiding your sleep quality and quantity, by calming your mind and body and regulating your sleep

Please note: Reflexology is not a substitute for medical treatment, but a complementary therapy that can support your health and wellness. Reflexology does not diagnose or cure any specific illness but rather treats the whole person as a unique individual. By working on your reflexes, reflexology can help you to achieve a state of balance and harmony in your body, mind and spirit.
