Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy is a joyous time, it can however be stressful as your body undergoes huge changes to cope with your ever growing bump.

Women come for a pregnancy massage for many reasons: to help balance their emotions, ease aching muscles and joints or to just get a little me time.

Massage does not just benefit you during the 9 months of pregnancy, it can also help relax you during labour.

What can the client expect at the appointment

The treatment will take place in a peaceful room. The client will lie on a couch, with plenty of pillows for support. They will be asked to remove restrictive clothing, be covered in towels to keep them warm and to protect their dignity at all times.

How many sessions should the client need before they see a result

After just one treatment the client will feel more relaxed and any aches and pains will feel improved. However everybody is different, therefore the number of treatments needed to see a long term improvement will depend on the condition being treated.

What can the Therapy help

As yet there is not sufficient scientific research yet to provide evidence of what massage can successfully treat, but it is often used to help relieve the following conditions:

  • Anxiety.
  • Depression.
  • Stress.
  • Insomnia.
  • Muscular aches and pains such as back ache.
  • Headaches.
  • Digestive problems.
  • Nasal congestion.
  • Stretch marks.

Who would benefit from this type of Therapy

Massage during pregnancy can be of great benefit, as it can help the client cope with both the emotional and physical changes taking place in their body both pre and post birth. There are conditions meaning treatment is not suitable, these include Pre-eclampsia and PIH.
