Myofascial Release Therapy

‘Restore Movement & Ease Pain – Naturally’

What is myofascial release (MFR)?

Myofascial release is a gentle yet powerful hands on therapy that works with your body’s connective tissue, the fascia, to relieve tension, reduce pain, and restore freedom of movement.

Fascia is a web-like structure that surrounds every muscle, bone, and organ. When it becomes tight or restricted due to stress, injury, poor posture, or inflammation, it can cause pain, stiffness, and even discomfort in other areas of the body.

Unlike deep tissue massage, MFR uses slow, sustained pressure to gently encourage the fascia to release – helping your body realign and heal naturally.

How can myofascial release help you?

Myofascial release is used to support a wide range of physical and emotional conditions:

Chronic Pain & Injuries

  • Back and neck pain (including whiplash, disc issues, scoliosis)
  • Frozen shoulder, arthritis, and joint stiffness
  • Pelvic pain from tension, surgery, or scar tissue
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome and repetitive strain injuries

Stress & Nervous System Support

  • Emotional tension (the fascia tightens under stress!)
  • Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue (gentle support for sensitive tissues)

Postural & Structural Alignment

  • Poor posture from desk work or muscular imbalance
  • Scar tissue (post-surgery or injury) restricting movement

What to expect in a session

Each session is individually tailored. Using gentle, mindful techniques, our therapist Tomoko works with your body, not against it, to:

  • Release fascial restrictions contributing to pain or limited movement
  • Ease nerve compression (e.g. sciatica, carpal tunnel)
  • Improve circulation and tissue hydration in areas affected by injury or surgery
  • Calm the nervous system – especially helpful for stress and fibromyalgia
  • Clients often describe a sensation of “melting” or “unwinding,” with lasting relief after just a few treatments.

Why choose myofascial release?

As a holistic therapist, Tomoko understands the deep connection between physical tension and emotional wellbeing. MFR offers a natural, drug-free way to support your body’s healing process; whether you’re recovering from injury, managing chronic discomfort, or seeking better body awareness and balance.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is myofascial release painful?
No. Unlike deep tissue massage, MFR uses gentle, sustained pressure. You may feel tenderness in tight areas, but the treatment always works within your comfort level.

2. How many sessions will I need?
A personalised treatment plan will be discussed at your first visit. However as a guide acute issues (e.g. recent whiplash) need around 3–5 sessions. Chronic conditions (e.g. scoliosis, fibromyalgia) need more regular support, such as monthly or biweekly.

3. Can MFR help with old scars or surgeries?
Yes. Scar tissue can continue pulling on fascia for years after healing. MFR helps to rehydrate and soften these areas, improving mobility and reducing discomfort.

4. What’s the difference between MFR and massage?
Massage focuses on muscle tissue, while MFR works on the fascial network, ideal for deeper, longer-lasting relief from chronic pain and postural imbalances.
