Motivational Enhancement

Brief explanation of the therapy

Motivational Enhancement Therapy is a talking therapy. It can aid the client to help clarify his/her own perceptions and beliefs to direct them in a more decisive way, so giving the opportunity to have vision and focus to life.

By using a non-judgemental approach, MET will analyse and feedback the information given by the client and then focus on transforming unhelpful thoughts and behaviours.

Throughout this time the therapist will work with the client to create positive affirmations and a sense of willingnness to facilitate change. This in turn can empower the client with a feeling of self-control.

What can the client expect at the appointment?

MET is time limited, made up of an initial assessment followed by four counselling sessions each an hour long. The initial assessment is for information gathering by the counsellor. The following sessions will work with the given information to empathically aid the client to explore and achieve lasting changes for a range of problematic behaviours.

What will happen in a session?

The client and therapist will work closely together to safely explore any unhelpful or negative feelings or thoughts that the client may have to strengthen and consolidate the client’s commitment to change and self-efficacy.

How many sessions should the client need before they see a result?

MET’s aim is to achieve the results within the 4 sessions. Clients may find that they achieve results early into the therapy.
