Indian Head Massage

Brief explanation about the therapy

Head massage has been practised for over a thousand years and continues to be part of daily grooming in India helping to provide families with healing and relaxation. Champi, meaning massage of the head, is often offered by barbers as part of their usual treatment. The aim of this type of massage is to relieve the stress that accumulates in the tissues, joints and muscles of the head, shoulders, neck and face.

Narendra Mehta came to England in 1973 to study physical therapy. He decided then to develop the Indian Head Massage as we know it in the west today.

What can the client expect at the appointment

A full consultation will take place prior to any treatment.

The Indian Head Massage consists of a stimulating scalp and hair massage to encourage healthy hair, a neck and shoulder massage to release stress and tension, and a facial massage to tone and relax.

The massage is done with the client sitting upright in a chair and it is not necessary to remove clothing. The treatment incorporates acupressure releasing a free flow of healing energy.

How many sessions should the client need before they see a result

This very much depends on the individual. Most people feel immediately relaxed and energized but it can take a few days for the energy to rebalance and the receiver can experience the beneficial effects for sometime after the treatment.

To keep the body and energy flow in balance the treatment is recommended once a month or as often as needed. If there are conditions that require particular attention then a course of treatments would be recommended.

What can the therapy help

Indian Head Massage intuitively treats the individual by releasing blockages and restoring a free flow of energy, supportively assisting the body in its natural tendency towards self -healing. Therefore the therapy can help many physical and emotional problems. The treatment is also very beneficial for those suffering from head, neck and shoulder tension and stress related problems.
