Joanna Briar

I am a printmaker living in Somerset, UK. I have been developing my printing techniques for several years working from my home studio. I principally work with lino and wood to create my printing blocks which are then printed onto Somerset paper or Japanese Shoji paper using my vintage book press. I also work with acrylic and metal plates to create drypoint etchings on an etching press.

My work reflects the beautiful countryside surrounding my home and quotations that inspire me. I love carving into the surface of lino and wood and exploring the different marks that can be made. There is nothing more exciting than lifting the paper for the first time on a freshly-inked block and seeing what impressions have been created.

I have worked on various commissions in the past and am always happy to hear your ideas. I took part in Somerset Arts Week Open Studios in October 2014 and had a solo exhibition at Seavington Community Stores and Café in January 2015. I am looking forward to exhibiting more work in the coming months.
