REIKI

Therapist

Sara Morley

Reiki is a traditional, safe, non-intrusive complementary therapy that the trained practitioner delivers with the hands. It was developed in Japan and had been taught and used in the UK for several decades.

Through its holistic approach to stress reduction and relaxation, Reiki stimulates and strengthens the body's capacity to self-heal, restoring inner balance and promoting well-being.

What will happen during my treatment?

During the Reiki treatment you'll remain fully clothed and will be asked to lie on a treatment couch. However in some circumstances the client may feel more comfortable sitting on a chair and I'm more than happy to adapt.

The hands are lightly placed in a series of positions on or over the client's body (the treatment is naturally respectful, so some areas are always treated with hands off). There is no massage or manipulation. I usually start a treatment by giving Reiki to the head, and then work in those areas that need Reiki the most. We're trained to find these areas by observing and interpreting the sensations we feel in our hands.

Who Would benefit from Reiki?

Reiki is suitable for people of all ages

Many clients book Reiki because they are troubled by symptoms like sleeplessness, pain, inflammation, repeated infections, anxiety, emotional trauma or extreme stress, and they seek a complementary adjunct to their core GP care.

Reiki is also used in cancer support, post operative recovery, drug rehabilitation, HIV/AIDS, and in the care of the elderly. Symptoms of terminal illnesses can often be relieved, and side-effects and pain managed better with therapies such as Reiki.

Equally many clients choose Reiki simply to maintain good health as part of a proactive self-care.

How does Reiki work?

Reiki's practical healthcare value lies in its tendency to induce deep relaxation on a physical, mental and emotional level.

In physiological terms, typically during and for some time after Reiki treatment, the sympathetic nervous system down-regulates and the client experiences physical changes associated with deep relaxation, such as, for example, a slower heart rate, easier breathing, and gentle relaxation of muscles.

This is profoundly useful as relaxation strengthens the body's own ability to self-heal and self repair. We heal more readily when relaxed, and far less well and more slowly when stressed.

Reiki's effects are not only physical: as a holistic system, over time Reiki deeply addresses the client's entire well-being - not just body, but also mind and emotions. Many report a calmer mind, refreshed mental clarity, improved sleep, and some even feel a sense of steady support and comfort during grief.

How often will I need to have a treatment?

Some find that even one Reiki treatment is beneficial, but a series of regular treatments tends to deliver a more pronounced benefit. Healing and improved self-care is often little steps, taken consistently. Yet please be reassured that you will not be pressured to have unnecessary treatments. Every client is individual and I prefer that you take time to assess the Reiki treatment experience and its benefits before booking future appointments.

Reiki Treatment Prices

1 treatment: £30

Course of 4 treatments: £95

Reiki treatments are 50 mins, plus some time for a brief pre- and post-treatment consultation.

Payment by cash or cheque. I ask for 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. A no-show fee of £20 is applied for missed appointments.

Prices will be reduced for children, who can certainly be treated (with parent/guardian present) but tend to require a shorter Reiki session/
