REFLEXOLOGY

Practitioner

Tomoko Burgoine

Brief explanation of the therapy

Reflexology is an ancient therapy that has been practised for over 5000 years and was introduced to the western world over 100 years ago.  Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary therapy which is based on the theory that different points on the feet, lower leg, hands, face or ears correspond to different areas of the body.  Reflexologists believe that working on these points or areas aids relaxation and helps improve wellbeing.

The reflexologist works holistically with her clients and aims to work alongside allopathic (conventional) healthcare to promote better health for her clients rather than just treating individual symptoms.  As a holistic practitioner, the reflexologist is there to support you as a whole person and promote your wellbeing.  Therefore, the reflexologist does not diagnose, prescribe or cure.

With ever increasing levels of stress in everyday life, it is important for people to take more responsibility for their own healthcare needs. Reflexology may be one of the ways to mitigate the stresses of modern life.

Reflexology is a very individual treatment which is tailored to you, taking into account both physical and non-physical factors that might be affecting your wellbeing.  Some people find it works for them - some don't.  The best way to find out is to try it!

What the client can expect at the appointment

A full medical history will be requested on your first treatment.  This information will be kept confidential. Reflexology is a very easy therapy to receive.  You will be asked to remove your socks and shoes.

What will happen in a session

The reflexologist will use her hands to apply pressure to the feet and/or hands, depending on the type of reflexology chosen. You may feel areas of transient discomfort during the treatment, but generally the experience should be relaxing and pleasant.

It is useful to give feedback to the reflexologist as this will help her assess the response of your body to the treatment. This in turn might help the reflexologist to tailor a treatment plan specific to your needs.

After one or two treatments your body may respond in a very noticeable way.  Most people note a sense of well-being and relaxation.

How many sessions does the client need before they see a result

The reflexologist will talk to you after your treatment, which may lead her to recommend a course of treatments to aid wellbeing.

What can the therapy help:

·         Wellbeing

·         Sleep

·         Mood improvement

·         Release of tension and stress

·         Relaxation

Who would benefit from this type of therapy

It is a therapy which can be received at any age, from new born babies to those receiving end of life care, and everyone in between.  However, there may occasionally be times when it is not suitable to provide a treatment, please contact the reflexologist for further information.

Personal recommendations from previous clients:
